Criminal Intelligence Training Master Calendar

Purpose

This calendar is designed to provide state, local, tribal, and federal law enforcement with a single point of access to federally sponsored intelligence training programs that meet the Minimum Criminal Intelligence Training Standards . The calendar is an initiative of the Intelligence Training Coordination Working Group and the Counter-Terrorism Training Coordination Working Group and was developed with funding support from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

In addition, analytic courses that have been reviewed for compliance with the Common Competencies for State, Local, and Tribal Intelligence Analysts and approved by FEMA for inclusion in either the National Training and Education Division (NTED) Training Course Catalog or the State/Federal Sponsored Training Course Catalog are located on the FEMA Approved Intelligence Analyst Training Courses Web page. These courses meet analytic training requirements for fusion center analysts set forth in the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP).

Course Description

Open Source Intelligence Analysis Course (OSINT)

Description: The OSINT provides employees the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate unclassified open information sources for intelligence purposes. Students delve deeply into current and emerging Internet content and learn techniques to address the rapidly growing complexity of openly available information. Students learn principles of open source research using obscure and foreign search engines; use of social media link analysis techniques; techniques to access information within the Deep Web and identifying illegal markets and forums; techniques to monitor social media discussion boards/blogs; techniques for geo inferencing social media posts; and assessing the need for information not available through open sources. Upon graduation, students will be able to conduct OSINT collection, research, and analysis.

Level of Knowledge: Intermediate

Target Student: Intelligence Analyst

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED

Evaluation: Students demonstrate knowledge and proficiency through graded assessments (e.g. practical exercises and exams) and class attendance. Students must successfully pass all graded assessments with a minimum passing score of 75% to receive a graduation certificate.

Accreditation: The DHS Intelligence Training Academy (ITA) is accredited by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board.
