Course Description

OPEN SOURCE PRACTITIONERS SEMINAR (OSINT): The OSINT seminar provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully navigate unclassified open sources for intelligence purposes. Students learn the definition and importance of OSINT to the DHS Intelligence Enterprise; consideration of civil rights, civil liberties, copyright and fair use in OSINT collection and analysis; principles of Open Source research; how to assess credibility and reliability of open sources; the use of search tools and anonymization techniques; how to access information within the Deep Web; techniques to monitor social media platforms; Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities; the use of information aggregators; and the value of Federal unclassified portals. Upon graduation, students will be able to conduct OSINT collection, research, and analysis at the entry level.
